No, I am not Oprah. And I am definitely not giving stuff away. But I am partial to certain things, and over time I’d like to share some of that stuff with you.
I think I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I am a fan of documentaries. As I have gotten older, and my free time has become more limited, I find that if I am going to make time to watch a movie it is typically a documentary that I choose. Here are a few of my recent favorites:
Love, love, love Young @ Heart! Was hooked from beginning to end and really only shed one or two tears. Will make you want to kiss your grandmother if you are fortunate enough to still be able to do so.
I watched American Teen in the movie theater with my daughter, a friend of hers and the mother of that friend–who is my friend. Got that? We all really enjoyed the movie and after it was over had a great conversation about the kids who are featured in it. It was fun and interesting to revisit the high school years via American Teen, but I am really glad I no longer reside there myself.
Finally, Man on Wire, which won the 2008 Academy Award for best documentary. I’ll admit that I found it difficult to like Phillipe Petit, the subject of this documentary, but I thought the movie itself was fantastic. There was plenty of suspense, action and even a little romance. And the old footage of the World Trade Center Towers was nothing short of haunting.
Do you have a favorite documentary (it doesn’t have to be a recent release) that you’d recommend?
